The Brasilian GERDAU S.A., Pindamonhangaba, SP / Brazil has placed an order with Austria’s BRAUN Maschinenfabrik GmbH for the supply of a dry abrasive cut-off ma­chine, type TS 16 W with peripheral equipment.

Gerdau’s Pindamonhangaba plant, produces specialty steel bars with very strict tolerances for the automotive industry. For the modernization of its rolling mill #1 BRAUN has been chosen to supply a dry abrasive cut-off machine using abrasive cutting wheels with 1 650 mm diameter for hot cutting squared and rectangular billets.

The new equipment is replacing a moveable friction saw and will be operated to remove head and tail scrap as cutting to final length.

The BRAUN equipment will be delivered in July 2023. Installation, commis­sion­ing, and acceptance are scheduled for the first quarter of 2024 with a minimum downtime of the rolling mill.
