The Italian subsidiary of the rolling mill and plant construction company SMS group has placed an order with the Austrian company BRAUN Maschinenfabrik GmbH for the supply of 2 combined abrasive cut-off and friction sawing machines, type TSFS 16/12 FP for their customer MUKAND SUMI Special Steel, Ltd. in Hospet, Karnataka, India (a joint venture of MUKAND Steel, India and SUMITOMO Corporation, Japan). Phase 1 of this project is designed for a production capacity of 400,000 tpy of hot-rolled bars with round and hexagonal shape, phase 2 for an additional volume of 600,000 tpy.

The two high-performance cutting facilities from BRAUN are designed for the utilization of abrasive cut-off wheels with a starting diameter of 1,600 mm, or of metallic saw blades with a diameter of 1,250 mm. Up to 1,200 mm wide layers of rolled bars can be cut in warm or cold condition. With these combining machines which allow the optional use of two different cutting technologies (abrasive cutting or friction sawing), MUKAND gets the flexibility to cut their entire product mix cost-efficiently and with the required quality with just one machine type tot he desired lengths.

The machines, together with all associated core components including automation will be assembled and tested at BRAUN, Vöcklabruck, Austria before shipment end of January 2020.

Supervision of on-site erection, commissioning and performance test in India shall be completed during the 3rd and 4th quarter of 2020.
