State-of-the-art high-pressure billet grinding machine for Jiangyin Xingcheng Special Steel

State-of-the-art high-pressure billet grinding machine from BRAUN for Jiangyin Xingcheng Special Steel

The Chinese enterprise Jiangyin Xingcheng Special Steel Co., Ltd., Jiangyin City, Jiangsu Province, has awarded the contract for the supply of a modern high-pressure billet grinding machine, type HP 6, with associated equipment to the Austrian firm BRAUN Maschinenfabrik GmbH and their Chinese subsidiary, BRAUN Machine Technologies (Beijing) Co., Ltd. as a result of an international tender.

With this high-performance grinding machine, continuously cast and rolled billets with squared cross sections from 140 mm x 140 mm to 240 mm x 240 mm and lengths from 45 m to 12.5 m shall be ground and freed from surface flaws such as e. g. cracks. The billets ground in this way will be afterwards rolled in Xingcheng’s high speed wire mill.

The multi-functional facility design developed by BRAUN does not only allow grinding of the entire billet surface (bright grinding) and of the billet corners (corner grinding) automatically but is also basically prepared for an automated grinding of individual, pre-defined surface flaws (spot grinding).

In addition to the grinding unit that comprises a grinding head featuring a stepless turning of the grinding wheel within an angle range from 90 ° to 45 ° and a specifically designed oil lubrication and recirculation cooling system for the gears and bearings of the grinding spindle, BRAUN also supplies all other core equipment, such as e. g. the grinding carriage, the lubrication system, as well as the complete hydraulic, electrical and automation systems of the facility. Moreover, BRAUN supplies a starting set of grinding wheels and spare parts. For peripheral equipment manufactured or procured by the customer, such as e. g. chip removal system, dust extraction unit, loading and unloading conveyors, etc., BRAUN supplies the required engineering, as well as special components.

The equipment will be supplied by the middle of September 2019, the hand-over of the grinding machine to the customer for production is scheduled for the middle of December 2019.
