After completing work on the new control with a user friendly HMI as well as comprehensive tests, the nuclear research center and the former Rheinsberg nuclear power plant are currently being decontaminated with the help of a wall shaving machine. The removal of the decontamination coating is dustfree and thus minimizes the risks for the surrounding area and nearby employees. In addition to the decontamination coating, layers of concrete surfaces are also removed in order to ensure that no contamination leaves the building. A mock-up of the decontamination of storage ponds was successfully implemented in England. BRAUN delivered the concept and the equipment for this project. This test serves as the basis for the decommissioning of the storage ponds in Sellafield. Currently a floating design of a milling machine is being designed, which can be positioned automatically.
